Blood Oozing After Toe Got Crushed, Cleaned With Iodine But Still Get Infected. Will Taking Amoxicilin Help?

I crushed my toe with a 40kg side board. The blood has welled up under the toe nail and throbs with every beat of my pulse. I painted my toe with iodine and lanced the toenail with a red hot cauterising paper clip and the blood and pressure is now released. I am keeping the small hole clean with iodine and am squeezing the blood out periodically to prevent a build-up of pressure. The base of my nail where it joins the toe or cuticle contains a blood blister and I think the side of my nail has cut the toe which is now becoming infected. I have taken photos and used a marker to draw around the red area so I can mark the growth of any infection which I now suspect may be present. I have in-date 500mg amoxicilin and have no allergies to antibiotics. I have taken one and seek your advice, please? yours Sincerely and happy new year! Matt

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thank you for asking Healthcare Magic.
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns. What you have done is not bad but in order to make it more convenient for you, you may apply a compressive bandage on the area that is bleeding instead of squeezing out blood from time to time. Also, an antibiotic that may be needed here is a drug that will affect a germ called Staphylococcus (e.g Cloxaciline or Amoxiciline combined with Clavulanic acid). Anti-Tetanus serum shot (if you are not immunized) and daily may also be needed.

I hope that answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. We will be delighted to answer more questions from you.
I wish you good health

Hi,
Thank you for asking question on health care magic
Amoxicillin should be taken 3 times daily for 5 days 50 mg/kg body weight.
You can take some analgesic like MEFTAL OR iBUPROFEN.
Daily dressing and local application of Mupirocin ointment.
The toe nail will fall off and new one will come in due course.
If already infection has set in do culture and sensitivity of pus collecting on a sterile cotton swab to know the organism responsible for infection an appropriate antibiotic
Hope this answer will serve your purpose
Please feel free to ask any more queries if required
