Blood Sugar Readings Are Increasing, Frequent Urination, Tiredness. Taking Metformin For Diabetes. Why Is Medication Not Working?
Hello I am a 35 year old female, I have type 2 diabetes. I ve been on metformin for About 1 year, before that I was on insulin . I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes 3 years ago and after the pregnancy I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. So far my blood sugar readings have been a bit high. Fasting blood sugar 250 range and random readings 300 range. I have noticed that the numbers are getting higher (420) and I am always feeling tired and I urinate every 15 -20 minutes. Why isn t the metformin working? Should I seek immediate medical attention? Thank you Katie

You are having very high uncontrolled blood sugar levels.Such high levels of sugar can cause serious repercussions on your body.Incresed urination and extreme tiredness is due to uncontrolled diabetes.
METFORMIN alone can't bring down such high levels of blood sugar and you need other medications to normalize your sugar levels.
You definitely need immediate medical attention and proper investigations followed by proper anti diabetic drugs under the guidance of a doctor on regular basis.
Remember one thing,diabetes management is a life time care and not a single time affair with your
doctor.

our diabetes is not under control.Recent ADA(American Diabetes Association) guidelines advocate timely combination therapy i.e.addition of a new drug when previous drug/drugs fail to keep sugar levels within the target range(after a 2-3 months trial with each drug).So you should see your endocrinologist at earliest who will suggest you the drugs to be added to metformin. With the advice of endocrinologist drugs like glimipiride,gliptins,voglibose or pioglitazone can be added to your current regimen provided there is no contraindication to these drugs.
