Blood Test Show Low Iron And Elevated Prolactin. Have Headache, Sore Breasts And Joint Ache. Suggestions?
My blood test results recently came back, I have low iron and 'elevated' prolactin. I must wait 6 weeks for an MRI. I am currently suffering from intense headaches, and sore breasts, and some mild aches in joints. It feels like the burning head pain is getting increasingly worse. I feel very worried and don't know anything about high prolactin and what that might mean. I am 32, and otherwise in good health, but I feel something is very wrong. Can anyone tell me more about elevated prolaction, do-s and don't-s, and how I can minimuse the head pain over the next 6 weeks.
Hi, You have raised prolactin which also produces headache for which you should consult neurophysician, you require Practin 4 mg (cyproheptadine)twice daily to get relief of headache .It is the drug of choice in your case.
Meantime MRI brain to be done to rule out pituitary microadenoma.
Aside from a pituitary tumor, high prolactin levels can be caused by breast feeding, hypothyroidism and certain medications. Any medication that restricts the effect of the brain chemical dopamine can cause abnormalities in prolactin production. This is because dopamine regulates prolactin production by the pituitary gland. These medications include some drugs for high blood pressure, as well as certain tranquilizers and anti-nausea medications. Of course, the type of treatment recommended to control elevated prolactin levels depends on the reason for the elevated prolactin.
