Boil On Back With Pus, Foul Smell. What Do You Think?

for around 5 to ten years i have had a recurring blind boil half way up my back, right beside my spinal column. it takes about one to two years to get to a point i realize its back. (pun not intended :) ) . i am an agressive squeezer, better out than in i feel. So, fibrous white masses eject and continue to do so with pauses in between. It smells acidic or poison or something putrid like that. i have no great concerns but what do you think it may be then??

Hi there,
According to your description it seems like acne to me,because the acne doesn't always involve the face but it can also involve back, sides of the arms and chest, especially if the acne is adult onset then more unusual sites are involved.
The other best thing to do would be to check your bloo sugar levels because recurrent boils are common in Diabetes.
So it's best to see your GP to see the lesion live and then if he thinks then he can do a blood test for Diabetes and if suspect Acne then he can put you on oral anti biotics.
I hope that will help.
Thanks a lot and all the best.

Dermatologist Dr. Kalpana Pathak's  Response
Hi,
You might be having sebaceous cyst. It is basically a freely movable painless lump beneath your skin that exudes cheesy putrid material when being squeezed. The only treatment option is to get it surgically removed. The procedure takes barely 15 minutes to half an hour and is done under local anaesthesia. It's a minor surgical day time procedure not requiring any hospital stay. If not removed, it will keep on recurring. Hope that answers your query
