Born With Heart Upside Down, Having A Pacemaker Since Birth. Echo Test Showed Heart Getting Weaker. Possibilities Of Death?

My boyfriend said he was born with his heart upside down, and had to get a pace maker. Hes had it since birth. Last monday he had to get a Echo for his heart and the doctor said his heart is getting weaker... is there any way to make it stronger? or will his heart stop and he could possibly die? If death is a result, how much time does he have?
