Both Children Have Large Boils On Back, Anus That Seem To Be Sore. No Improvement With Warm Compress, Antiseptics. Cause?

Hi there, my daughter (2) developed a large boil on her back a few days ago, she has a couple of smaller ones also that haven't gotten very big. My son yesterday came up with 3 of the same looking things right around his anus and they are extremely sore! They look like boils and I have treated them as such, using warm compresses, antiseptic and covering them. Why would they spread though, could this be something else?

Hello

welcome to healthcare magic

What your kids are having might be impetigo contagiosa. It is a bacterial infection caused by Staphylococcus and has a propensity to spread. One or two lesions can be managed with topical antibiotic like Mupirocin 2% cream application 3 times a day. Avoid sharing of towels and clothes. An antiseptic soap containing triclosan will help. If it is extensive or not improving an antibiotic course covering staphylococcus will help and you need doctor's consultation and prescription for it.

Hope this helped.

Take care
