With a stroke patient findings were demonstrates a large geographic area of T2 prolongation with mixed signal characteristics with in the right hemisphere, primarily involving the opercular cortex entending to the adjacent deep white matter involving the temporal, parietal , frontal lobes and, to some degree, thye occipital lobe in the mideonvexity. IMPRESSION Site of previous vascular insult right hemisphere with associated cystic encephalomalacia. what does this mean in lamens terms. Does this mean that a person is able to work on a job that can not use his left hand , left foot or remember to give a message straight?

Site of previous vascular insult right hemisphere : This means that there was a problem with the blood supply sometime earlier ( commonly seen in a stroke) . This leads to a damage of the area of the brain that is supplied by that particular area. Associated cystic encephalomalacia: This means that the grey matter is softened and thinned out and cysts ( round empty structures with thin walls) have been formed. This is commonly seen after a stroke.
It is quite likely that the function of the left hand and foot is affected in such a person and the memory can also be affected.
