Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I m 56 years old and type 2 diabetic witch is well under control. but my BMI is about 25% , about 25 pounds over weight. My daughter gave me a adderall because I was tired and I noticed it curbed my appetite. Just checked my sugar and it was 180 .don t no if it is coincidence or not? would like to take it for 3 or 4 months to drop some weight. currently metformin, 1000mg 2x daily.. what do you think?
Adderall is a central nervous system stimulant and though it can cause weight loss. However, because of its potentials to cause addiction, and can be abused, it not advised for weight loss.
Diet and exercise are still the best policy to lose weight. The only drug approved for weight loss is Orlistat. Even that is risky when advised with exercises and diet. So personally I would advise not to take the drug.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
