Can Amiodarone Cause Weakness On The Legs?

My 93 year old mother is on amiodarone. She was put on it about eight months ago when she went to the hospital with pneumonia and developed a fib at that time. Could it have been a temporary situation. I amy concerned about her being on this drug as my cardiologist and electro physiologist said I could be on it no longer than two months. Since mom was put on this drug she can no longer walk. Her legs are so weak. Of course I don t know the cause of that. Everyone just says it is her age. Could the amiodarone cause that

Amiodarone belongs to the group of medications known as antiarrhythmic medications that is used in the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias and atrial fibrillation. It is used for restoring normal heart rhythm and maintaining a regular as well as steady heat rate. Amiodarone can cause reduce blood pressure by diluting blood vessels. Amiodarone can cause numbness and tingling in the hands or feet, trembling or shaking of the hands, trouble with walking, weakness of the arms or legs, peripheral neuropathy etc.

High doses of Amiodarone have been reported to develop quadriplegia. Patients who take Amiodarone are more likely to be susceptible to strokes that can cause to unsteady gait. If such type of side effects persist for long or bother you, then you should consult your doctor first for medical attention.
