Can Amlodipine Cause Dry Mouth?

I have been experiencing a dry cough for four weeks now. Tried "Magic Mouthwash" from my ENT dr. Saw a pulmonologist the next week who prescribed a six-day steroid. But now I read that Amlodipine can cause dry mouth. Any suggestions? Should I change my high blood pressure med?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it looks like dry mouth in your case is due to Amlodipine that is a blood pressure lowering medicine and is seen to commonly cause dry mouth..
However other common causes of dry mouth can be:
-Severe dehydration,
-Salivary gland dysfunction.
-Nerve damage supplying salivary glands.
-Oral infections like thrush..
-Sjogren's Syndrome..etc..

Consult your physician and get evaluated and if Amlodipine is the culprit changing the drug or altering the dose can help..

-As of now for dry mouth chew sugarfree chewing gums..
-Drink plenty of water.
-Avoid regular mouthwash and use specialized mouthwash that are formulated for dry mouth patients like Biotene..
-You can also instil artificial saliva drops..
-Suck tart candies as it also stimulates saliva flow..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
