Can Amoxicilin Be The Cause For Loose Stool In Child?

Hi my son is 4 and half year old and he was down with throat infection. Dr prescribed amoxicilin and he has loose motion and vomiting now. Should I stop amoxicilin now or should I continue to complete the dosage ? another doctor prescribed two medicine for gastric trouble and for nausea.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain, yes it is true that Amoxicillin that is an antibiotic can cause loose motions, nausea and vomiting and it is a common side effect of antibiotics..
Although such symptoms can also be indicative of stomach infection..
I would suggest you to consult a Paediatrician and get evaluated and he can do a clinical evaluation and advise him accordingly..
In case if it is side effect of amoxicillin the symptoms will subside after the medication is stopped..
In case if it is due to stomach infection antibiotics like Metronidazole and anti-diarrhea drugs like Furazolidone and anti emetics like Domperidone in child doses shall be advised..
