Can Amoxicillin Be Taken For Toothache?

I have a bad tooth ache that is a result of a lost filling that I waited too long to see a dentist. I have an appt in two weeks but it is the weekend and the pain is pretty bad. Very little swelling if any at this time.
My question is I have some amoxicillan 500mg from a previous visit last year. Is it OK to start taking them now for what is presently going on?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain it seems that the decay has reached deep into the tooth due to lost of filling and it has led to severe inflammation of the nerves leading to severe pain and swelling..

Taking Amoxicillin will reduce infection but will not immediately reduce pain therefore you can aa of now take anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen to relieve pain, however it will be temporary...

You can also start taking Amoxicillin for 5 days bit for permanent relief treatment of tooth which can be proceeded by x ray of tooth will help..

If tooth is on condition to be saved Root Canal Treatment will be advised..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
