Can Anastrozole Intake Cause Heart Attacks?

I have been taking astrozole for a year & eight months. At the beginning of March I had a tia & have read that if a woman is taking this medication she has a risk of a heart attack or a stroke, is this true and if so what is an alternative medication that would not involve a risk of heart attack or stroke.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Anastrozole is an aromatase inhibitor. It works by lowering blood estradiol concentrations and it helps to decrease the size and growth of the tumor.
It is used in treating certain types of breast cancer in women who have been through menopause.
More common side effects seen with use of it include: Blurred vision, chest pain or discomfort, dizziness, headache, nervousness, pounding in the ears, shortness of breath, slow or fast heartbeat and swelling of the feet or lower legs.
It's intake does not per say increase the chances of heart attack or stroke.
Kindly consult Physician in this regard for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
Regards,
