Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband was taking Atenlol for approximately 8 years (50 mg) every morning. His doctor has just increased the dosage for him to take at night also. He is experiencing lethargy and is a little loopy . Is this normal? And will this stop or something that will continue
Atenolol is a betablocker used for treatment high blood pressure. Most of the beta blockers, which are available in market, cause lethargy and fatigue. So your husband might feel fatigued, tiredness and having low energy level. This is absolutely normal. Once you stop taking these drugs, your problem of fatigue will resolve. This will stop with progress of time even on continuing atenolol. Advice 1. Continue medicines as suggested by your doctor 2. Do alter dose of medicine by yourself unless suggested by your doctor 3. Avoid driving & swimming 4. Investigation a. Hb% b. ECG c. Measure your husband’s blood pressure regularly Thanks
