Can Ativan, Prozac And Zoloft Be Taken Together?

My husband is taking ativan, prozac and zoloft. I have a big concern that this is too much medication at one time. Am I being over concerned? He has a history of using drugs. I have to be the keeper of all these drugs and dole them out to him because he has taken too many before. Should I be concerned?

Hi,

Ativan is composed of 'lorazepam', which is a benzodiazepine used for the management of anxiety disorders and insomnia.

Prozac is composed of 'fluoxetine', which is a type of antidepressant called a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and is used for treating depression.

Zoloft is composed of 'sertraline', which is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It is used for the treatment of depression.

Intake of these medications together needs to be done with caution.

A moderate degree of interactions has been noted when these medications together, which may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating.

Combining fluoxetine and sertraline will increase affecting serotonin levels in the blood.

Too much serotonin may land up in potentially life-threatening situation. Severe signs and symptoms include high blood pressure and increased heart rate that may lead to shock.

Kindly consult Physician before intake of these medications so that dosage and combinations of them would be prescribed appropriately.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
