Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
3 months ago I had a quadruple bypass operation. My cholesterol, triglycerides, and glucose levels had been in the acceptable range for years. Annual EKG s were fine, an echo cardiogram was fine, only the stress test showed a problem which led to my surgery. My cardiologist has me on 80mg Atorvastatin, 25mg Metoprolol, 120mg Diltiazem and 81mg aspirin. I understand that the combination of Atorvastatin and Diltiazem may be problematic. Any concerns I should have? Lubbo Luken YYYY@YYYY
Hello, Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health concern
Diltiazem can increase the levels of atorvostatin and increase the risk of side effects like liver damage and myositis. However, it does not cause any problems in most instances. When taking the combination monitor liver function test and creatine kinase levels closely, at least every 3 months.
