Can Azulfidine Be Taken While On Treatment For Liver Cirrhosis?

Does Azulfidine interact with any medications given for siroccis of the liver or affect the liver in any way? For years every time I eat I immediately have diarrhea. This is problem which I originally went to gastrologist with when they found the siroccis. It is now 4th stage and is not related to alcohol. I heard it is used for Chrone s disease but have not been diagnosed with Chrones.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Azulfidine may not cause liver cirrhosis but it may cause liver toxicity.

But few studies have shown that the drug may be given in cirrhosis patients, in fact, it may recover cirrhosis in 10% of patients (studies have to be proven).

Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
