Can BC Pill Cause Low Menstrual Flow And Missed Period?

Hi, I've been having abnormally really light short periods for around 6 months now. My periods have now stopped.
I have had hormonal blood tests done and they are all normal. The doctor recommended I come off the pill for a break. What could be causing the lack of periods?
