Hello
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
Bactrim ingredients are Sulfamethoxazole +trimethoprim (400 mg + 80 mg ) is a most potent antibiotics of sulfa group.
Usually boils are due to streptococcus or staphylococcus bacteria and this drug kills these bacteria .
Beside this it is also effective against numerous pathogens ( bacteria) so your doctor prescribe this drug.
Usually five days are sufficient for successful treatment but for precaution your doctor prescribed for 10 days ( complete coverage , so don't recur ).
Good luck.
