Hello doctor, I m 31weeks pregnant now. Its my first baby. I had a cervical cerclage on during my 12th weeks of pregnancy because of short cervix(2.2cm). My doctor advised me to take 2 betnesol injection( 3amp) one for today and another for tomorrow. Is this safe during pregnancy. Is this affects my child after its birth? Please clarify my questions..
Your doctor must be know the risk of this medicine. This medicine contains betamethasone, known as corticosteroid. But you dont have to worry because there is no evidence that corticosteroids result in an increased incidence of congenital abnormalities, such as cleft palate/lip in fetus. However, when administered for prolonged periods or repeatedly during pregnancy, corticosteroids may increase the risk of intra-uterine growth retardation.
Consult to your doctor for more infornation.
All the best, dr. Nurul
