Can Biotin Cause Yeast Infection?

I am a 65 year old female, taking biotin 5000mcg I have had two rounds of antibiotics for thrush, one rinse and one pills I am thinking the biotin is the problem that is causing the thrush, I do not have a vaginal yeast infection. Could the biotin be the problem? Has helped my nails and skin heal... Carol Watson

Hi Carol,

I can understand your concern. Biotin is not responsible for the yeast infection. However, if you have had two rounds of antibiotics, they can be causing candidiasis as antibiotics eliminate the normal flora of the mouth causing fungal infection.

I would advise you to start with antifungal medication and not antibiotics for the infection. You can take Fluconazole 150 mg (Fole) once a day for 10 days and maintain optimum oral hygiene.

However, if the fungal infection is not eliminated in 10 days, you should see a dentist for clinical examination along with culture for the investigations.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
