Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
If a 44 years old male is shown in CXR to have cardiac size is on high side of normal with mild unfolding of aortic arch, however, his treadmill EKG is perfectly normal achieving 11 met, with max HR at 176. Average resting BP is 130/80. Had history of high alchohol consumption, current AST & ALT normal, GGT is 1.7X of normal limit. Would his CXR be a false positive or true positive of having a slight heart enlargement ?

Can CXR Imply Enlarged Heart?
Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! I would like to explain that chest X ray study is not a very specific test for the heart function and structure. For this reason, I would recommend performing a cardiac ultrasound in order to examine your heart chambers, the valves and the aorta. Hope you will find this answer helpful! Kind regards, Dr. Iliri
