Hi dear. welcome to HCM. thanks for trusting us. may I know what kind of antibiotics which have been prescribed by her doctor?
canesten contains
Clotrimazole which is an antifungal medicine, used to treat infection caused by yeast and fungi.
impetigo is caused by bacteria, it's one of the most common skin infections in children. you should know that impetigo is contagious and can be spread to others through close contact or by sharing towels, sheets, clothing, toys, etc. Scratching can also spread the sores to other parts of body.
since bacteria is the cause if impetigo, giving canesten cream to your daughter IS NOT RIGHT. if her impetigo
rash is mild, it can be treated with ointment or cream to put on the sores, such as clindamisin or gentamisin. but in this case your doctor has prescribed oral antibiotic, means your daughter has more serious impetigo. it's wiser to consult to her doctor about it.
here some tips for you to give medicine to your daughter:
1. try to minimize the bitter taste, by using pipette in giving drugs to infant. drop the drug slowly but gently to the side of her cheeks to avoid chocking.
2. smile to her, so he's not afraid to drink medicine. tell that it's important to her healing.
3. give her some juice that she likes so it can decrease the bitter taste that left in her tongue.
4. tell your daughter not to scratch the sore to prevent spreading. keep her clean and dry.
I hope these can be useful for your concerns. if there's anything else you need to know, please ask me more in HCM. I hope your daughter will get well soon. take care.
best regards,
dr. Asti Yuliadha
