Can Cephalexin Capsule Be Crushed Before Consumption?

I am a care giver for my mother-in-law who is bed ridden she has started chewing her meds so we have had to start crushing them and putting in applesauce she was prescribed Cephalexin capsule willit be alright to just open capsule and put in applesauce?
