Can Chlorthalidone And Oxybutynin Be Taken Together?

Are there any interactions between chlorthalidone and oxybutynin.? I am 60yrs. Old, and am being treated for very high bp,, and had been taking the oxybutinin also because I have an overactive bladder as well. I have one kidney, (donated it to brother).. is there anything synergistic between them? It has started to hurt when I urinate, but it s not an infection. It s different; it starts with pressure, then pain and I have to push quite a bit. I ll go a bit, then stops, and this cycle starts again. Usually it s 3x, and I really have to work at it to empty my bladder. Any concerns about this? Thanks for an answer!

Hi, thanks for your question.

Short answer: Yes both Chlorthalidone and Oxybutynin can be taken together.

It is important to know the gender of the patient in this particular case. For a male patient, I would recommend to see a doctor in order to get examined for any prostate enlargement. This may require an ultrasound examination as well. A urine test for both male and female patient will detect/rule out any infection.

Another possibility is that you may be taking oxybutynin more than required, which can cause urinary retention, and maybe you need to see your doctor to review its dose.

Hope this helps and please do not hesitate to ask for any further clarification.
