Can Citalopram And Isotretinoin Be Taken Together?

I’m 18 from the UK and have been taking citalopram for about 18 - 24 months. My anxiety and depression (which was severe at one stage) is under control and I haven’t had a depressive episode since being put on the antidepressant. I am also on my third antibiotic for acne. My GP is going to refer me to a dermatologist at the hospital to look to prescribe me Isotretinoin and I am obviously nervous about the psychological side effects but feel I am well equipped and stable enough to handle any down days. Will I be able to safely take the acne meds? If my derm is reluctant, is there anything I can do that will help such as speaking to my mum or having a psych consult first?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

These two medications can be taken together since there is no scientific evidence that some interactions or serious side effects exist. SO if there is medical indication then it can be taken just be sure to take it in recommended dosage. Also, you must be sure that you are not allergic to any ingredient of these drugs. If you start to feel any signs such as breathing difficulties or rash, you should stop medications and see doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
