Can Clonidine Be Taken While On Methylprednisolone?

OK, I started Methyl prednisone on a tapering dose yesterday for severe trochanteric bilateral bursitis. I am on my 2nd dose today to end in 3 more days - tapering dose. Tonight my BP is 179/98, I am on BP Rx however I have never had a problem before. Is it safe to take Clonidine to bring it down?I have waited 15 minutes and rechecked it and it is 166/89.

Hello,

There are no known interactions between Clonidine and Methylprednisolone.

So if you have used Clonidine in the past and have it available you can temporarily use it to lower those blood pressure values.

If values remain high after you finish tapering then it would be wiser to consult your doctor whether to keep going with Clonidine or other first-line antihypertensive agents.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
