Can Clotrimazole Cream Be Used For Herpes Infection?

I have herpes and have tried making contact five times with my gyno and they still haven t returned my call. I m in crisis mode with my first outbreak and haven t even talked treatment options yet. So my question is could I use my leftover clotrimazole cream to treat it,and how effective would that be. I have oral surgery in the morning and desperately need the surgery done like yesterday.

Hi,

Clotrimazole is not effective against herpes infection. Clotrimazole cream is commonly used to treat superficial fungal infections it is not effective against herpes infection which is caused by virus herpes zoster. I suggest you to take acyclovir containing cream or ointment.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
