Hi,
It is not advisable to take these two medications together. Contrave is a combination of an opioid antagonist (
naltrexone) and an antidepressant (
bupropion) commonly prescribed for the treatment of obesity along with lifestyle modifications. Although rare however seizure may occur as a side effect of bupropion and when taken along with other medications that can also cause seizures such as hydrocordone the risk of seizures may increase many folds. You may be more susceptible if you are elderly, undergoing alcohol or drug withdrawal, and have a history of seizures.
Besides, taking naltrexone along with
hydrocodone is also not recommended. Naltrexone can block the effects of hydrocodone and make the medication less effective in relieving your
severe chronic pain. Moreover, if you take hydrocodone for a week or longer naltrexone can also precipitate
withdrawal symptoms. So, in view of the above I advise you not take these two medications together and ask your doctor for an alternate effective but a safer medication to treat both the conditions.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
