Can Crestor Cause Gum Pain As A Side Effect?

I just started taking Crestor a little over a week ago. For the past 5 days, I have started having severe gum inflamation and pain. Saw my dentist today and no problem with my teeth. He suggested it could be my sinus. could the pain be a side effect of Crestor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Crestor contains 'rosuvastatin', which belongs to a a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or "statins."
It reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL).
Common side effects of Crestor include: myalgia (muscle pain) and asthenia (muscle weakness).
It is not known to cause gum inflammation and pain.
Since it can be caused due to sinus infection, I would like to advise you to consult ENT specialist for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.,
