Can Doxycycline Cause Nausea?

Hi. My 16 year old daughter was just prescribed doxycycline hyclate for her acne. It's making her very nauseous which I know is a side effect. She's going to try to take it on a full stomach rather than empty. My question is, if that doesn't work, how long do we give it before determining her body isn't tolerating it and she needs to switch meds?
Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

In addition to trying it on a full stomach, she can also try medications such as dramamine to help combat the nausea.
She would not be able to use pepto bismol with the doxycyline to help with the side effect because these two interact.

You can give it at 3 days to see if nausea improves.

If she cannot tolerate the doxycycline, her doctor would need to try another option.

I hope this helps
