Can Effient Be Discontinued For A Week Before Treating A Herniated Disc?

Hopefully, I am scheduled to get an injection for a herniated disk. However, I am currently on Effient and am told I need to go off these for 7 days before the procedure. My cardiologist is out of town and I need answer soon since I am in pain. It has been over a year since my stent (sp) procedure. What would the complications be for me to discontinue the Effient.

Hi,

Effient is a brand name of Prasugrel which is an antiplatelet drug.

You have to stop the this drug five days prior to injection because it can cause bleeding after injection and may end up in spinal hematoma which may result in unwanted complications.
