Can Forteo Be Taken In Place Of Prolia?

I am taking anastrazole for treatment of breast cancer. I was advised to take Prolia, but am wondering about Forteo instead. Is one better than the other or does one have fewer side effects. I had shingles this past December following radiation, and am better but still have a little pain. Thank you, Karen Noonan

Hi Karen Noonan,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Prolia brand contains 'denosumab', which is used to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women who have high risk of bone fracture.
Forteo contains 'teriparatide', which is a recombinant form of parathyroid hormone. It will help in osteoporosis as this medication that builds bone.
Denosumab is a human monoclonal antibody which are made to target and destroy only certain cells in the body. This will help to protect healthy bone cells from damage.
Hence, it would be better for you to take prescribed Prolia instead of Forteo.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
Wish you good health.
Regards,
