Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have neuropathy and I take 3200 mg of Gabapentin each day. My doctor give me 25 mg of Topiramate to take twice a day to help with the pain. Is there any problems with that ? Also I might have to start Radation for prostate cancer in about 30 days. Will taking this medication be a problem with that also?
It may cause harmful interactions. Taking gabapentin together with Topamax may increase the severity of side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, impaired concentration, thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. Also avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving, swimming, or operating hazardous machinery. Talk to your doctor for a possible reduction in the dosages of these medications or to prescribe an alternate effective but a safer medication to relieve the neuropathic pain. There's no documented evidence of any harmful effects of these medications are taken along with radiotherapy for prostate cancer.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
