Can Gabapentin Be Taken For Left-arm Pain Caused Due To Shingles?

I have a case of shingles on my left arm. It is been about a month. There is just some residual pain in my forearm. A few days ago my right forearm started to ache. It is quite painful, especially when I try to carry something or stretched to reach something. Any ideas? I am on gabapentin only.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history of Gabapentin, my treatment advice is -

1. Take good nutritious diet full of green leafy vegetables and milk.
2. Apply a Lignocaine gel twice daily on affected skin.
3. Take a vitamin B12 supplement once daily for 3 months.
4. Other treatment options are oral Gabapentin and Amitriptyline taken only after consulting a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
