Can Gilbert's Syndrome Cause Abnormal Bilirubin Levels With Black Stools?

two months back i had 2.2 serum belurbin level in routine medical check up i consulted docter he said to take rest for ten days and take some medicine , idid the same and serum level decreased to 1.5 m, then he said i can continue my normal life, after a month i got checked again so serum was 1.9, he asked for ultrasound for full abdomen and test shows every thing normal. i also consulted gestro on this they said it as gilbert syndrom,but from last 3 ,4 day some time i have black stool,plz advice

Hi there,

Gilberts syndrome is a syndrome where patients have elevated bilirubin levels with no clinical significance. Meaning that there aren't any health problems associated with this!

I wouldn't worry about having Gilbert's syndrome at all. The black stools can be caused by a number of things - sometimes ulcers in the stomach. I'd recommend you ask your GI doctor to evaluate you using endoscopy (a camera). If you take ibuprofen I would avoid that, and I would start an acid reducing medication such as prilosec.
