Can HPV Be Diagnosed Through Regular Pap Smear Test?

I just got results from a pap smear saying I have trichomonas.... I have hpv and have been for a pap every 6 months for 18 months and never told I had this. I just switched doctors though. haven t had sex in 2 months and was in a monogamous relationship. is there anyway my last doctor just missed this? is it typically tested for on an annual pap? how long could I have had this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Trichomonas is a parasitic infection of genital canal & it has nothing to do with HPV or Pap smear. By this report it cannot be ascertained that since how long you are having it. But it needs treatment including your sexual partner.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
