Can Hepatitis Contracted Due To Blood Transfusion Cause Any Problem After Long Time?

I had a blood transfusion in 1964 in a hospital following the removal of a dead fetus, and from that blood contracted Hepatitis. I was 27 years old at the time. Which type of Hepatitis is this? And is it any cause for alarm at this time in my life. Thank you.

Hello. Thanks for asking on healthcare magic. Hepatitis is a broad term for inflammation of the liver. It could be infective or otherwise. Viral infections causing hepatitis are divided into hepatitis A, B, C, D or delta, E, G. Out of these hepatitis B and C are commonly blood borne infections spread by blood, blood products, contaminated syringes and through sexual intercourse. It can spread perinatally from mother to child during delivery/feeding. It is a grave disease causing anything from chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis to liver cancer. Kindly consult a gastro enterologist and pursue a treatment for this as this will harm you in the long term, treatment involves drugs to be taken for nearly 1-1.5yrs. Hope i helped. For further queries you can write again. Thanks.
