Can Hydroquinone Be Used In Removing Brownish Discoloration On Skin?

About 10 months ago, I had jock itch, I treated it with hydrocortisone and econazole and the redness and the itching got away, but now my skin has a brownish colour. I went to a doctor and he prescripted me a tanictin and a clotrimazole, but it had no effect. A week ago I started using hydroquinone 2%, will this help me get my skin colour back?

Hi,

Hydroquinone works by inhibiting melanin pigment and thereby reducing pigmentation of skin. But the drug can itself cause skin irritation and pigmentation as side effect in some women. Test for skin sensitivity before using by applying the cream to a small patch of hyper-pigmented skin. If no redness or itching occurs within 24 hours, use the drug. Apply the cream, just enough to cover the affected areas and avoid applying to normal skin, as this will lighten as well.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
