Can Hydroxyurea And Prolia Be Taken Together?

I have osteoporsis and my doctor advises me to take Prolia. I also am taking Hydroxyurea for a high platlett count. I understand after consulting with a pharacist that these two medicines when used together can could a serious risk for infection. I don t know what to do as I don t want to subject myself to a possibility of serious infections. I have take Actonel and Fosimax for many years and my rheumatoligist does not want me to continue with them. Any advise or recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you. YYYY@YYYY

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

That is correct, these medications, if taken together can increase the risk of infection occurring.

This may be due to an effect on the immune system. It would be best to discuss this possible side effect with your doctor so that you can be given an alternative to use.

I hope this helps
