Hi,

According to your history the possible causes of your problem are:
- At 47 years there is a possibility of hormonal imbalance leading to irregular periods.
- If you have taken the emergency contraceptive pill within 24 hours of unprotected intercourse, the possibility of pregnancy is less.
- High dose of hormones in emergency contraceptive pill can alter the menstrual cycle by affecting the natural reproductive hormone levels. If you have taken in the second half of the cycle, possibly delay in periods may occur.

So, you please go for a urine pregnancy test once. If the test gives a negative result, you can wait for one more week. As you are having possible premenstrual cramps, you may get periods soon.

If you do not get periods, even after one week, please consult your gynecologist once, go for an ultrasound to find out the possible cause and take treatment accordingly.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
