Can I Continue Taking Antiviral Granules If My Sore Throat Persists But My Runny Nose Has Improved?

I have had a sore throat and runny nose for more than a week. I have been taking antiviral granules for 5 days. After using astepro, my runny nose has been greatly reduced, but my sore throat has not improved. Can I continue to take antiviral granules?

Hello,

No, you need not continue to take antiviral granules if you are not within the recommended duration prescribed by the treating doctor or as specified on the packet of the antiviral granules. Viral infections usually improve in 5–7 days. Continuing antiviral granules longer rarely helps.

You are advised to do warm saltwater gargles 3–4 times a day. Taking warm fluids (honey water, herbal teas) will be good for your throat and will relieve the symptoms. Steam inhalation is helpful. Keep throat lozenges. Take antihistamine at bed time, once daily for 5 days.

I hope I have answered your question. Take care.
Regards,
