Can I Have Unprotected Sex While Taking Birth Control Pills?

I just started taking Tri-Sprintec, i have never been on birth control before so it is my first time... I am almost down to week 4 on my pack. I am worried bc i had unprotected sex nd im not sure if the pill is going to work since it is my first month , or do i have to take Plan B as a backup?

Hormone contraceptives give good protection usually 3 to 4 months after initiation. Hence, it is advised to use additional protection during this period. In the current scenario, you are likely to be in the safe period of the cycle and hence, the chances of conception are very low. Using the emergency contraceptive pill is likely to disrupt your hormone balance. I would ask you to see if you have your period as expected and go for further management if you miss it by 3 or 4 days.
