Can I Opt For A General Anesthesia During A C-section?

I am nearly 36w pregnant and will be undergoing a scheduled c-section by the end of this month. I have really bad anxiety amongst other mental health conditions that make me feel highly terrified and freaked out of the bare thought of being awake while being cut into. I have read up that some hospitals will refuse GA during a c-section unless an absolute emergency. I live in Athens Alabama and haven t had a chance to consult my OB / hospital about this yet. With having such bad anxiety issues can I opt for GA?

Hello,

General anesthesia can be applied quickly in an emergency or if you need a cesarean delivery quickly.

Once under general anesthesia, pain relief isn't an issue because you're essentially asleep.

You can discuss with you doctor about general anesthesia but it is a possibility.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
