Can I Pull A Muscle In My Lower Jaw While Coughing?

I'm getting over a cold and think I pulled a muscle in my lower jaw coughing. It doesn't hurt to eat, drink, or bite but when I cough or touch my right side jaw line (below teeth line, about an inch from the center chin) it hurts - sometimes radiating up to feel like it is in my teeth -but not a specific tooth. Is this a pulled muscle or could it be something else (abscessed tooth)?
