I have been on Eltroxin (2mg daily) for an inactive thyroid since 2000. Within the last few years, I have noticed a gradual decrease in libido to now which is at total zero. I am 42 years old and feel that the continued use of this chronic drug my be the cause?
Hello, Thank you for asking on HCM! I carefully read your query and I am trying to give you some suggestions regarding to your problem. Primary hypothyroidism is a chronic pathology and the treatment in general is long life. The aim of the treatment is to substitute a hormone that is no more produced by the thyroid gland. If the latest TSH level was within the normal ranges, than the lack of libido can not be attributed to the thyroid. You may discuss with your gynecologist (if you are a female) if these are premenopausal symptoms. Hope the information is helpful.
Kind regards, Dr.M.Guni
