Can I Stop Using Condoms And Start Trying For A Baby Without Consulting A Gynecologist?

Hello! My partner and I have decided to have a baby. Right now, we re using condoms for contraception. Do I need to consult a gynecologist before stopping contraception? I had my last check-up 4 months ago, but I didn t mention anything about planning a pregnancy. Can I stop using contraception already?

Hello,

Since condoms are a barrier method of contraception (not hormonal), you can safely stop using them any time you’re ready to conceive. It is not necessary to consult a gynecologist, but if you two need preconception counselling, you should consult. If any one of you have medical conditions (PCOS, thyroid issues, diabetes, etc.), then you are highly recommended to consult a gynecologist to get it treated at the earliest.

In case you need guidance on prenatal vitamins like folic acid, which should ideally be started at least 1–3 months before conceiving, then you should consult a gynecologist. Once you have conceived, get clinically examined and get all required tests and investigations done. Schedule check-ups every month after conception. In the meantime, maintain a healthy lifestyle, take home-made nutritious food, take quality sleep, and stay away from any emotional or physical or mental stress.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
