Can I Take Estradiol Which Is Only Progesterone Instead Of The Prescribed Jinteli Which Is Estrogen And Progesterone Since The Latter Is Not Available At The Moment?

I called my gyno's office today to refill my hormone tablets-Jinteli, generic for Femhrt. I've taken it for one year and suddenly realized I had only one pill left and no refills. The Dr.'s office called a refill in, but when I went to pick it up I was told they'd received a fax canceling the refill. I won't be able to talk to my doc until at least Monday and I really don't want to let them run out. My sister has Estradiol and can lend me some until I can talk to my doctor and get some kind of explanation and I 'm considering it. I know my med is estrogen & progesterone and hers is only progesterone, but I hope for a few days it would be better than taking nothing. Night sweats and hot flashes are really hell. What do you think?

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Estradiol is only Estrogen, not progesterone. You can take Estradiol for few days, but atleast the last 10days of 28days cycle, you should combine it with separate progesterone ( like norethisterone, or medoxy progesterone), so that your withdral bleeding will not be excessive. The other option is that as soon as you get your Combination pills, you can switch over to it. Estorgen is the main drug wich helps you with menopausal night sweats, and hot flashes. Progesterone we add to minimize your withdrawl bleeding, so it is perfectly alright to take estradiol for the time being.
Hope you got your answer.
