Can I Take Amlong For Hypertension?

I am hypertensive without any heart problems. I have been taking Amlong 5 mg (Amlodipine) once a day for the past 8 years. I notice my BP has gone upto 150/90 recently. The doctor has changed my medication to Covas 8mg ( Candesartan cilexetil) once a day. Do you think I should switch over to this ?

Hi,
You take Amlodipine 5mg for years. If now your BP increased to 150/90. It means Amlodipine 5 mg is not enough for lowering your blood pressure any more. There are some options;
1, to increase Amlodipine dose
2, to go with combination, which means to add a second medication
3, to change the medication
Your doctor has chosen the third option.
So you can start Covas and see how it works in your case.

Take care
