Can I Take Azithromycin For Viral Fever And Cough?
Hi, It started about a month and a half back when I initially fell down by a viral fever (along with productive cough), after taking oflox (3 days) and again Azithromycin (3 days), viral subsided but coughing didn't. Later another diagnosis revealed that my AEC was a bit higher at 450 (ref 40-440). So now I'm on benocide forte along with other medicines to suppress allergy and clear respiratory track. From the last two days I can feel pain in my level and when I touch the bottom left area of the rib the pain is substantial. Please advise me
Hi. Thanks for your query and an elucidate history. The history of your illness is for more than one and half month. Viral fever can not really continue for such a long. We should consider the possibility of another / associated other medical problems too. AEC does not have much clinical significance when though about it as a lone entity. Anyways complete the course of Banocide forte. There is no point in taking Azithromycin repeatedly. I would advise you to go for X-ray of the chest, ultrasonography/ blood and urine tests including those for sugar, liver and kidney functions. The pain in the lower of the chest is suggestive about costo-chondtritis/ local muscle pull or even a fracture at this point. Now - the treatment will solely depend upon the clinical and pathological findings on the above mentioned tests. Till then you can have steam inhalations and supportive treatment .
